On the evidence of the 1881 census, Helen Kyle was born c. 1854 in Avondale.
‘Ellen’ Kyle was entered as a silk handloom weaver (spinster), 24, usually resident at Ballgreen, Strathaven, at
the time of her marriage to John McColl in 1878.
Helen McColl MS Kyle was recalled as deceased when her daughter Helen McColl
married Peter Watson in 1921.
Helen McColl, married to John McColl, fruiterer, died on 24th
June 1912 at five in the evening, at 14, Barn Street, Strathaven. Her age was (correctly) entered as 60. The causes
of death were certifed as chronic nephritis, from which she had been suffering for one year and two months, and
cerebral venous thrombosis, four months. The informant on the following day at Strathaven was the deceased’s
widower, John McColl, entered as present.

Archibald Kyle’s 1901 death certificate and again, when residing at 45,
Corsewall Street, Coatbridge, on their mother Susan Kyle MS Moran’s in
