On the combined evidence of his 1876 death certificate and the 1851 and 1861 census records, Thomas Park was born c. 1817 in Avondale.

Thomas married Isobella Scott on 20thOctober 1840, as recorded in the Avondale Parish Register.

He was a mason in Strathaven when his son, John, was born in 1843 and again when his daughter, Jean, was born in 1847.

He was again designated a mason, just under two months later, in connection with his wife’s entry in the Register of Deaths, dated 24th May 1847.

At the time of the 1851 census, Thomas Park, widower, 33, stone mason, with his children John, 7, and daughter Jane, 4, were living with his parents, John Park and Janet Park MS Lowrie, in North End, Strathaven.

In 1861, Thomas Park was living in North Town End, Strathaven, in premises having two rooms with one or more windows. He was a widower, aged 43, a ‘mason (stone)’. Living with him were his son, John, unmarried, 17, also a ‘mason (stone)’, and daughter, Jane, 14, housekeeper. Thomas and John were both born in Strathaven but Jane was entered as born in Ayrshire, Auchinleck.

Thomas Park was designated as a mason when his son John married Jeanie Struthers in 1869.

Thomas Park, mason (journeyman), widower of Isobella Scott, died on 20th November 1876 at 11h 5m pm, at Northtownend, Strathaven. He was entered as 59 years of age. The cause of death was certified as phthisis, from which he had been suffering for three months. The informant at Strathaven on 27th November 1876 was John Park, the deceased’s son, entered as present.

Thomas Park was recalled as a builder (deceased) on the 1916 death certificate of his son, John.

On the evidence of the 1851 census, John Park was born c. 1777, in Strathaven.

At the time of the 1851 census record, he was living in North End, Strathaven. He was 73 years of age and a stone mason. Living with him were his wife, Janet, 67, widowed son Thomas, 33, stone mason; grandson John, 8, scholar, and granddaughter, Jane, 4. All were entered as born in Strathaven except for Jane, who was entered as born in ‘Ayrshire, Lugar’.

John Park was recalled as a mason (master) (deceased) when his son, Thomas, died in 1876.

On the evidence of the 1851 census, Janet Park MS Lowrie was born c. 1783, in Strathaven.
