At the time of the 1881 census, Jessie was a scholar, aged 8, living with her parents, three brothers and three
sisters at Sidehill, Parish of Avondale.
In 1891, she was a ‘Farmer’s Daur Dom Serv’, aged 18, again living at Sidehill with her widowed mother, two
sisters and one brother.
At the time of her marriage to Thomas Park in 1897, Jessie Brown Wilson was a
spinster, aged 24, usually resident in Commercial Road, Strathaven.
Jessie Brown Park, widow of Thomas Park, provision merchant, died on 8th February 1961, at eight in the
morning, at Comely Bank, Lethame Road, Strathaven. She was 88 years of age. The cause of death was certified as
senile degeneration. The informant, on the same day, was R. (presumably Robert) Wilson Park, son of the deceased, of
Wingfield, 78, Kirk Street, Strathaven.
Jessie Brown Wilson was born on 27th September 1872 at Sidehill, Parish of Avondale. The informant was
the child’s father, Robert Wilson, entered as present.

Jessie Brown Park MS Wilson was the fifth of seven known children. She had two older brothers and sisters, as well
as a younger brother and sister, all known from the 1881 and 1891 census records.
Robert and Hugh, born c. 1860, were apparently twins. In the 1881 census, Robert was a railway clerk and Hugh was a
wright (journeyman). Both were aged 20, living in the family home and unmarried.
Hugh Wilson, of Auldhouse, East Kilbride, acted as informant on their father Robert Wilson’s death certificate in
1885.
Jane, born c. 1868, was a scholar aged 12 in 1881. As Jeanie, she was 22 in 1891, still unmarried, living in the
family home and employed as a hosiery knitter.
Helen, born c. 1874, was a scholar aged 6 in 1881. As Ellen McColl Wilson, she was 16 in 1891 and employed as a
hosiery knitter.
Gavin, born c. 1877, was aged 3 in 1881. In 1891, Gavin was employed as a draper’s apprentice, aged 13.
Gavin Wilson acted as informant on their mother Christina Wilson MS McColl’s 1914 death certificate.
All were born in Avondale.
