The birth of ‘Janet dag^r. to Gavin Wiseman in Newton & Jean Eastin his spouse’, on 6^th October 1805, was recorded in the Avondale Parish Register.

Janet Wiseman was the first of the three wives of Hugh McColl.

The youngest of Janet’s children, James McColl, was born on 17^th April 1841. On the evidence of the 1851 census, the child survived but Janet died less than three weeks later, possibly as a result of complications, as commemorated on the family gravestone:

An entry in the Avondale Parish Register, for May 1841, runs:

The ‘11’ presumably signifies the date and the ‘1’ identifies the lair.
