On the evidence of the 1851 census, Thomas Wallace was born in Markinch, Fife, c. 1793.
Thomas Wallace Wright in this Parish & Jean Law in the parish of Kennoway after the usual proclamation of Banns were married the 7th of Decr 1814 by Dr Johnson
At the time of the 1841 census, Thomas Wallace, joiner, 45, was living at No (166?) Fountain Bridge, St Cuthbert’s,
Edinburgh. Living with him were wife Jane, 41, a dress maker; Isabella, 20, a straw hat maker; Jane, 15, and Helen
Smith, 20. All were entered as having been born outwith the county.
In 1851, Thomas Wallace, a house carpenter (journeyman), aged 57, was living at 169, Fountain Bridge, St Cuthbert’s
Parish, Edinburgh, with his wife Jane, 55. Both were entered as having been born in ‘Fifeshire, Markinch’.
In 1861, Thomas Wallace, wright, widower, 67, was living in Main Street, Leslie, Fife, in premises having two rooms
with one or more windows. He was entered as having been born in Carnbee, Fife.
In 1871, he was a joiner, widower, 79, living in the High Street, Leslie. On this occasion he was entered as having
been born in Kilconquhar.
Thomas Wallace, joiner, widower of Jane Law, died on 20th March 1873 at 6h 30m am,
in the Old Town, Leslie, Fife. He was 81 years of age. The cause of death was ‘old age’; there was no regular
medical attendant. The informant on the same day was Thomas Archibald, the deceased’s grandson.
Thomas Wallace was recalled on his daughter Agnes Wallace’s 1878 death
certificate as a joiner (deceased).
