George Hendry

George Hendry was born in 1840:

Hendry - George lawful son of James Hendry in New Keith and his wife, Mary Duncan was born on 13th December 1840 and baptized this day Witnesses George Simpson and William Duncan both in Keith.

George Hendry, auctioneer (bachelor), 36, usually resident in Bridge Street, Keith, Banffshire, married Mary McInnes on 31st July 1878, at Mid Street, Keith, After Banns according to the forms of the United Presbyterian Church. The register was signed by H. H. Macfarlane, Minister of Keith United Presbyterian Church, and by witnesses Robert Hendry, presumably the groom’s brother, and John Fraser.

On his daughter Ethel Shearer Hendry’s 1891 birth certificate, he was entered as George Hendry, Inspector of Poor.

George Hendry, Inspector of Poor, married to Mary McInnes, died on 1st May 1901, at 63, Moss Street, Keith, Banffshire. His age was entered as 59. The cause of death was certified as lung cancer. The informant on the 3rd at Keith was Robert Hendry, of 162, Mid Street, Keith, the deceased’s brother, apparently the same man who had been a witness to his marriage.

When his daughter Ethel married in 1916, he was recalled as George Hendry, Inspector of Poor (deceased).

The marriage of ‘James Henrey’ and Mary Duncan was recorded as follows:

When George Hendry was born in 1840, his parents were entered as ‘James Hendry in New Keith and his wife, Mary Duncan’.

James Hendry, auctioneer, married to Mary Duncan, died on 26th March 1872 at nine in the morning, in Bridge Street, Keith. His age was entered as 75. The cause of death was entered as disease of the bladder. The informant on 9th April at Keith was George Hendry, the deceased’s son, entered as present.

When George Hendry married Mary McInnes in 1878, his parents were entered as James Hendry, auctioneer (deceased), and Mary Hendry MS Duncan.

Mary Hendry, widow of James Hendry, feuar and auctioneer, died on 5th July 1893 at 20, Bridge Street, Keith. Her age was entered as 84. The cause of death was certified as apoplexy, from which she had been suffering for two days. The informant on the 8th at Keith was the deceased’s son, George Hendry, of 63, Moss Street, Keith.

When George died in 1901, his parents were recalled as James Hendry, auctioneer, and Mary Hendry MS Duncan, both deceased.

James Hendry’s parents were recalled on his 1872 death certificate as James Hendry, carrier, and Jane Hendry MS Lobban, both deceased.

At the time of her birth in 1810, Mary Duncan’s parents were entered as ‘John Duncan & Margt. Cruikshank in New Keith’.

When Mary died in 1893, her parents was recalled as John Duncan, weaver (deceased). The informant, Mary’s son, George Hendry, was unable to recall his grandmother’s Christian name but correctly supplied her maiden name as Cruikshank.
