23rd November 1891 - 31st March 1954 |
At the time of her marriage to Rev. John Aulay Steele on 22nd
February 1916, Ethel S. Hendry was a spinster aged 24, usually residing at 8, Kelvinside Terrace, Glasgow.
‘Ethel Aulay Steele’, married to John Aulay Steele, Parish Minister, Church of Scotland, died on 31st
March 1954 at 7h 20m pm, at 11, Barossa Place, Perth. Her usual residence was entered as
the Manse of Cleish by Kinross. Her age was entered as 62. The causes of death were certified as carcinoma
of cervix uteri, multiple metastases and cachexia. The informant on the following day at Perth was J. Aulay
Steele, the deceased’s widower, entered as present.
It is unclear why, on this occasion, Ethel’s middle name was given as Aulay. It looks like an element of confusion
or misunderstanding was involved. Perhaps the Registrar asked for Ethel’s middle name and John gave his own.
Ethel Shearer Hendry was born on 23rd November 1891 at 1h 10m am, at 63, Moss
Street, Keith, Banffshire. The informant on 10th December at Keith was

Mary Hendry MS McInnes.
