The marriage of Matthew Baird and Agnes Barr on 26th November 1813 was recorded in the Old Monkland
(Lanarkshire) Parish Register in an entry dated the 20th:
Matthew Baird in this parish and Agnes Barr in the parish of Govan to be proclaimed on these two following sabbaths
The corresponding entry in the Govan Parish Register discloses that the ceremony was booked on the 19th
and that the ceremony took place on the 26th. It also confirms that Matthew was in Old Monkland Parish.
He was designated as ‘Matthew Baird Weaver Muirside’ in connection with his daughter Anne’s birth and baptism in
1814; as ‘Matthew Baird Weaver Baillieston’ in connection with son Archibald in 1820 and as ‘Matthew Baird Weaver
Muirhead’ in connection with daughter Margaret in 1823.
Matthew Baird, a cloth manufacturer, deceased, was recalled on the 1875 marriage certificate of his son,
Archibald Baird, on the 1893 death certificate of his son
John Baird and again on Archibald’s 1899 death certificate.
