John Tennent (sic), iron founder (bachelor), 31, usually resident at Northbank, Bothwell, married
Agnes Wallace Baird on 26th April 1898, at the Windsor Hotel,
St Vincent Street, Glasgow, After Banns according to the Forms of the United Presbyterian Church. The Register was
signed by Peter Cunningham Duncanson, of Auchingramont U. P. Church, Hamilton, and by witnesses John H. Johnston and
Elizabeth F. Archibald.
In 1911, John and Agnes W. Tennant were living at Bredenhill, 99, Silverwells Crescent, Bothwell, premises having
twelve rooms with one or more windows. John, 45, was an iron founder, employer, born in Coatbridge. Agnes, 35, was
born in Uddingston. The marriage had endured for twelve years; one child had been born alive and was still living.
Also in the same household were domestic servants Isabella Fraser (cook) and Simona McDonald (housemaid), both
speakers of Gaelic and English, aged 23, single and born in Lewis, Stornoway.
The presence of sisters Elizabeth (54) and Robina (50) Tennant, both born in Coatbridge, at North Bank, no. 57, is
also noted. It is very probable that John was their brother.
John Tennent (sic), iron and steel founder, married to Agnes Wallace Baird, died on 20th August
1911 at ‘about 1h 0m a.m.’, at Bredinhill, Bothwell. He was 45 years of age. The cause of
death was certified ‘Saw the dead body: Heart Disease, many months’. The informant on the following day at
Uddingston was Harry A. Baird, the deceased’s brother.
John Tennant was born on 14th July 1866 at 12h 15m am, at Sandyhillocks,
Coatbridge. The informant at Old Monkland on 1st August was the child’s father, Robert Tennant, entered
as present.

According to to their son John’s 1866 birth certificate, Robert Tennant and Jane Thom were married on
10th March 1853 at Glasgow.
When John Tennant was born in 1866, his parents were identified as Robert Tennant, iron founder, who acted as
informant and was entered as present, and Jane Tennant MS Thom.
When son John married Agnes Wallace Baird in 1898, Robert Browne Tennent was again designated an iron founder and was
apparently still living. Jane Tennent MS Thom was entered as deceased.
When John died in 1911, Robert Brown Tennent, recalled as an iron and steel founder, and Jane Tennent MS Thom were
both entered as deceased.
