The following crudely handwritten notes in pencil appear on a piece of notepaper, on the same side as the printed
address – 7 UNION TERRACE, ABERDEEN.
Alex Gordon of married Elizabeth daughter of Cruickshank of Aswanley in Glass by whom she had two sons Jock & Tam Jock obtained the property of Scurdarg - (no vestige) Tam got Ruthven in Cairnie (Riven) - From J + Tam Gordon came most of the Gordons Terpesy (sic) among the rest |
On the reverse side is a pedigree tracing an uninterrupted line of descent from ‘James Gordon of Lesmore’ to
William Leiper, with two deviations, the first of which accounts for John,
1st Laird of Wardhouse and the second for ‘James Gordon of St Kitts The Entailer’.
Note also the entries indicating that the mother of the 1st Laird of Terpersie was a sister of King James
V of Scotland and that Charles was VII, not VI, of Terpersie - both directly
contradicted by Wimberley but in accord with several documents in Section J.

Notes
1 Added in pencil immediately thereunder – ‘His brother, John 1st. of Wardhouse.’ Also line
leading to, in ink:
2 The name of Margaret Gordon might reasonably be expected to appear here but doesn’t.
3 ‘James’ is scored out and ‘Charles’ is substituted immediately below, both in pencil. This seems to be but one instance of the confusion which seems to persist over the Christian name of Charles Gordon of Terpersie’s first born. It is possible that he was originally Charles but found it necessary to change it to James in order to disassociate himself from his father, who was hung for treason in the wake of the failed 1745 rebellion.
4 Added in pencil immediately thereunder –
‘Harry
see ring’
This appears to refer to the ring, with the original owner’s name engraved around, which William Leiper is stated in George Stuart’s pedigree to have inherited from the Rev. Harry Stuart, who had himself inherited it from Captain Harry Gordon.
