Barbara Urquhart |
1759 – 1st April 1844 |
The baptism of Barbara Urquhart was recorded in the Alford (Aberdeenshire) Parish Register in an entry dated
29th April 1759:
Peter Urquhart in Tillechetley had a child baptized named Barbara in prefence of the Congregation being the Sabbath Day.
Barbara Urquhart married Robert Brown in 1780.
At the time of the 1841 census, Barbara Brown, 80, born in the county, was living alone at Aquihirton, Parish of
Kintore, Aberdeenshire. Whilst inconclusive, this is a probable match.
According to the inscription on the family gravestone in Cluny (Aberdeenshire) Kirkyard (Monumental Inscription No
120, The Kirkyard of Cluny, compiled by Sheila M. Speirs, published by Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Family
History Society, first published 1991, 2008 reprint, p. 13), Barbara Urquhart, wife of Robert Brown, died on
1st April 1844, aged 84, which accords precisely with the baptismal record which has been identified for
her.
Barbara Brown MS Urquhart (deceased) was recalled on the 1859 death certificate of her son,
James Brown.
Forebears |
The marriage of Peter Urquhart and Agnes Bruce was recorded in the Alford Parish Register, in an entry dated 29th June 1756:
Peter Urquhart & Agnes Bruce both in this parish their matrimonial Banns having been duly published and no impediment found were married
This is a plausible match for the parents of Barbara Brown MS Urquhart, particularly since it is recalled that she named her first daughter Agnes.
