Margaret Baird, married to John Baird, steel manufacturer, died on
23rd April 1883 at eight in the morning, at Kenmuir House, Tollcross. Her age was entered as 62. The
causes of death were certified as catarrhal pneumonia, from which she had been suffering for eight days, and heart
disease, from which she had been suffering for seven. The informant two days later at Baillieston was John Baird,
the deceased’s widower, who was entered as present.
On the combined evidence of the census records and her 1883 death certificate, Margaret Muirhead was on the born
c. 1820 on the South Side of Glasgow.

When Margaret Muirhead died in 1883, her parents were recorded as Alexander Muirhead, a portioner, and Margaret Muirhead MS Reston, both deceased. It will be recalled that John and Margaret had been married by the Rev. James Reston of Dundee; he may have been the bride’s uncle.
