It has been handed down in the family that, as a young man, Leslie used to go on hillwalking with his uncle,
George Stuart Brown.
Leslie Stuart Baird, geologist (bachelor), 28, married Helen Kyle Watson
on 12th September 1951 at the University Memorial Chapel, Glasgow, after banns according to the forms of
the Church of Scotland. Leslie was usually resident at West Quarter, Strathaven.
The Register was signed by G. Arthur Robertson BD, Minister of Avondale, Old Church, Strathaven. The witnesses were
Matthew W. Baird, Colinhill, Strathaven, and Sheena Watson, Dunvegan, also Strathaven.
Leslie S. Baird, of Avonholme, 40, Townhead Street, Strathaven, acted as informant on his father Matthew Barr
Baird’s death certificate on 14th March 1961.
Leslie Stuart Baird, aged 54 years, died on 8th September 1977 at 1635 hours, at Stonehouse Hospital,
Stonehouse. His usual address was entered as 61, Townhead Street, Strathaven. The causes of death were certified as
intracerebral haemorrhage, general arteriosclerosis and cirrhosis of the liver. The informant on the following day
was Helen K. Baird, widow, also of 61, Townhead Street, Strathaven.
Leslie Stuart Baird was born on 6th March 1923 at 9h 45m, at 2, Sardinia Terrace
(now Cecil Street), Glasgow. The informant on 16th March 1923 at Glasgow was
Matthew B. Baird, the child’s father (present).
