Helen Eva, familiarly Eva, the sixth child and younger daughter of
Peter Stuart Brown and
Elizabeth Chapman, was born on 6th February 1885 at 11h
30m am at 2, Glenbank Terrace, Lenzie, in the Western District of Cadder, Lanarkshire. The informant was
‘P. Stuart-Brown’, the child’s father, who was present at the time of birth.
‘H. E. Stuart Brown’ was a spinster, aged 26, at the time of her marriage to Matthew B. Baird Jr on 28th September 1911. She was usually resident at Auchengrange, Lochwinnoch. Under the terms of her late father’s 1907 Trust Deed and Settlement, in which she was named as a beneficiary, Helen Eva stood to inherit an equal share in her father’s estate, along with her three brothers, Henry, Charles and George, and sister, Elizabeth, on their mother’s death in 1927. It is presumed that she actually did so. Helen Eva Baird, married to Matthew Barr Baird, steel manufacturer, died on 8th April 1941 at 4h 30m am, at West Quarter, Glassford, Lanarkshire. She was fifty-six years old. The cause of death was certified as pneumonia. The informant was Matthew B. Baird, the widower, who was present in the house at the time of death. A death notice was published in The Scotsman on 9th April 1941, precisely one week after the same newspaper had published an obituary for Helen Eva’s brother, Henry James Stuart Brown:
