Advanced preparations for publication are underway.

Captain Wimberley changes his opinion concerning the alleged first marriage of George Gordon, II of Terpersie, but concludes that definitive proof is lacking.

Dear Mr Leiper,

                        I have carefully re-
vised the Proof sheets of notes on the Ter-
persey family, and looked them over since
I last wrote to you.

I had to score out some paragraphs &
substitute others, in consequence of having
obtained information different but I believe
more correct, as compared with what I
had when I compiled the notes.

This is especially the case with regard to
the Auchannachie marriage, mentioned in
a birth brieve – a Margt G. wife of Geo. G.
2nd laird of Terpersie. I am inclined to think
she was a 1st wife, and that his 2nd was
Margt Ogilvy, dau. of Inverquharitie ; but
I have not found proof.

I had to make several alterations and
corrections of paragraphs on the 3rd & 4th
slips : but I think the directions to the
Printer are tolerably clear.

With regard to the small Arabic
numerals prefixed to certain Christian
names in the print, I do not think
any one can understand the references
without a copy of the Pedigree, which
has similar numbers prefixed to the
individuals referred to – I cannot
do so myself. The notes were framed
as referring to the Pedigree.

I would therefore ask you to allow
me to suggest to you to print as many
copies of the Pedigree as you get copies
of the notes printed.

I took my M.S. book to the N. Chron.
Office & asked the Manager of the Printing
dept what the cost would be.

I assume that you would like say 30
copies if you print them at all, and
I venture to ask you to give me say
15 or 20 copies : as you know the
main expense is setting up the type
and correcting it : the paper, except
the hand made thin paper for the
Pedigrees costs little, & the actual
printing also but little : but the setting
up types of pedigrees is a slow matter,
& requires a man accustomed to
the work.

The Manager here said abt 21/ or 22/
for 50 copies.

If you wish it I will make a
copy of the Pedigree for the Printer
here, and revise & correct the proof :
there is a man here, in the N.
Chron. Office well acquainted
with my writing, who is very careful
and does them well.

I know you are very busy but please
let me know as to this as soon as you
can.

Meantime I think I had better return
you the proof slips : a second revisal
would evidently be necessary by me.

I also send you a copy of a Revised
Pedigree of the Lesmoir family, and one of
a newly completed Pedigree of the Birken-
burn family, which were printed here,
the setting up done by the man I spoke
of above.

    With kind regards

                I am

                    Yours very truly

                    Douglas Wimberley.
