Francis Ross married Mary Cochrane on 1st July 1856 at
Dalry, ‘Marriage (after Banns was Solemnized between us according to the Forms of the Free Church.’ Francis was 40,
a wright (bachelor), usually resident in New Street, Dalry. The Register was signed by Alexander Steele, ‘Minister
of Free Church’, and by witnesses William Brown and Thomas Cochrane.
Francis Ross, joiner (master), married, died on 13th April 1858 at 4h 30m am, at
New Street, Dalry. His age was entered as 42. The cause of death was entered as consumption, from which he had been
suffering for upwards of a year (‘Not Certified - No immediate Medical Attendant’). He was interred in the Burial
Ground, Dalry, as certified by James Barr, undertaker. The informant on the 20th at Dalry was Alexander
Ross, the deceased’s brother, entered as present.
On the evidence of his 1856 marriage certificate, Francis Ross was born c. 1816.

On Francis Ross’s 1856 marriage certificate, his father was recalled as Hugh Ross, a wright, deceased, and his mother was entered as Ann Ross MS McBain. They were similarly entered on his Francis’s 1858 death certificate, except that Hugh was designated as a joiner on this occasion.
