John Steele married Margaret McAulay at Cardross, as recorded on 2^nd November 1816:

2d Novr 1816 John Steele and Margaret McAulay both in this parish gave in their names for proclamation in order to Banns, and were married.

John’s last known child, Aulay, was born in November 1824 and his widow remarried in 1829. It would therefore appear that John died at some time between 1824 and 1829. There is no known record of this event.

He was recalled as a ‘Baker (Master) (Deceased)’ on the death certificate of his son, also John Steele, in 1859.
