Elizabeth Anderson |
16th August 1792 - 1st March 1865 |
An entry in the Bathgate Parish Register dated 16th August 1792 reads:
Elizabeth Anderson is known from the 1881 death certificate of her son
Mungo Chapman and was deceased by that time.
David Anderson and his spouse Elisabeth Anderson had a Child Born Named... Elisabeth Anderson
This appears to refer to Elizabeth, although particularly in context it might have been expected that her mother’s
maiden name, not her married name, would be given.
‘Elizabeth Chapman (Married to John Chapman Miller)’ died on 1st
March 1865 at nine in the evening pm, at Ballancrieff Mill, Parish of Bathgate. She was 73 years of age and the
cause of death was certified as a ‘diseased heart’.
Forebears |
The names of Elizabeth’s parents appear on her death certificate as David Anderson and Elizabeth Younger. According
to Elizabeth’s death certificate, David was a farmer. Both were deceased at the time of Elizabeth’s death in 1865.
Further entries in the IGI state as follows: David Anderson was born at Bathgate in 1758. Elizabeth Younger was born
in 1762, also at Bathgate. An entry in the Livingston Parish Register, West Lothian, dated 10th November
1774 refers to 2/6d ‘Proclamation money’.
‘Elisabeth’ Younger was still alive in 1841. She was entered in that year’s census and was living in the household
of her son-in-law John Chapman at Ballancrieff Mill, Bathgate. Her age was entered as 85, which was something of an
exaggeration.
